Poultry question...?

I took some chicken out of the freezer thinking it was chicken (it was really chicken legs) and let them thaw for an hour. They had started to defrost but were mostly still frozen when I realized my mistake. Is putting a slightly defrosted chicken back into the freezer a really bad idea? (Like I said, it was still frozen, but the frost on the outside had started to melt.) I just don't want to give anyone salmonella!
