Webcam help please!!!?

Bought a ADVENT ADE A1 webcam today - followed instructions and did all that was required on cd installation disk, even updated windows to sp II. The programs that were on the disk have been installed - so it says then to plug in laptop - go to my computer and control panel and scanners and cameras but there is nothing there - the computer can't detect the webcam. What should I do - I'm out of ideas - please help in user friendly terms! Thanks.
